I bought Dragon Con tickets for myself and my sister! We're also going to the Night at the Georgia Aquarium thing too. It was pricey but I'll worry about that later lmao. [personal profile] imperion might be going, another friend is definitely going, and my nephew is going (that part is not so exciting, lmao). I also found out that another friend is going in a different group, so we're making plans to meet up at some point. I AM SO EXCITED, Y'ALL. *vibrates*

And I didn't even realize how close it is! Only 40 days away! Omggggggggg.

I'm still waiting for my photobucket links to break with a kind of fascination of watching a crash in slow mo. I pretty much only use photobucket for fanish stuff, and that sparingly since I don't do a lot of art, mostly banners and things these days. I haven't lost access to my account yet.

But really that had me browsing through pictures on my phone recently since that's my main camera for recording my life, and it's kind of hilariously made up of two things for the past few months: bread in various stages and animals that my cat has killed and brought to the door. Which is even more hilarious when you know that my 1st grade science project was titled "Animals that my cats catch." So yeah.

Anyway. I'm making regular loaf bread today from the Joy of Cooking, and tomorrow I'm going to do Casatiello, which is an enriched Italian bread that has chunks of cheese and salami in it. I haven't gone grocery shopping for the extra ingredients yet, which is why it's waiting till tomorrow.

Been working on my Teen Wolf fic this week. I'm kind of feeling like I want to clear off what's ongoing before starting something really new. I'm still messing with Dragon Age short fic, but I don't really have a direction for a lot of that, though I'm thinking I might once I get to some mysterious critical mass.

Still been reading a lot of Dragon Age fic. This week's rec is
Haven (256723 words) by SageFic
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Cullen Rutherford/Female Mage Trevelyan
Summary: Kate Trevelyan, mage and earnest, genteel nerd, travels to the Conclave with Colleen Lavellen, an ex-Dalish-turned-librarian, and Robert Trevelyan, her charming smuggler cousin. But when the Divine's peace talks explode, Robert falls in with bad company, Coll finds herself chasing mercs, and Kate becomes...the Herald of Andraste? Sort of. Kate has absolutely NO idea what she’s doing, and her growing attraction to a certain former templar isn’t helping.

Why I love it: This covers just the time in Haven starting a little before the game with some really great character work throughout. Basically I love this story for the conversations you get between characters. It delves into the mage-templar conflict, and really sets up a nice discussion between mage!Trevelyan and Cullen about Kirkwall that is really well done and not seen very often. Early scenes include Divine Justinia, and there's a lot of good daily life included. It diverges enough from gameplay to keep it interesting. I'm not a huge fan of the Lavellen or male!Traveleyan characters that are included, or the epistolary chapters, but over all it's good.

Now is the time of year when bees are wild
and eccentric. They fly fast and in cramped
loop-de-loops, dive-bomb clusters of conversants
in the bright, late-September out-of-doors.
I have found their dried husks in my clothes.

They are dervishes because they are dying,
one last sting, a warm place to squeeze
a drop of venom or of honey.
After the stroke we thought would be her last
my grandmother came back, reared back and slapped

a nurse across the face. Then she stood up,
walked outside, and lay down in the snow.
Two years later there is no other way
to say, we are waiting. She is silent, light
as an empty hive, and she is breathing.

This one knocked the wind out of me. I tried to write something eloquent and insightful and came up empty. I never saw Linkin Park live. Despite going to Projekt Revolution in 2007. (We left before their set. Not getting into why because it's not the time, and yes, I'm kicking myself.) Which means although I wouldn't call myself a "fan" on the same level as their actual fanbase, they did give me the best damn summer of my life and I cannot thank them enough.

That said, this is my favorite song:

Please, please, take care of yourselves. All of you.

Ahhh, a music Friday Five! 👌

1. Have you come to the conclusion that your parents music (music popular in their time) isn't so bad?

I never thought "my parent's music" was bad. And I don't think of music in those terms. All music is MY music.

2. Is there a song/group/singer you once adored, but don't now?

Yes, unfortunately.

3. Is there a song/group/singer you once despised, but is okay now?

Nope, the music that just didn't do it for me, still doesn't do it for me.

4. Have you ever heard a favorite song and suddenly had a reinterpretation its meaning?

Yes! I was pretty young when I realized that Shine On You Crazy Diamond was specifically about Syd Barrett, before that I guess I had a vague understanding that it was about musicians in general.

5. What song would you just as soon never hear again?

Blurred Lines.

Sooooo I ended up finishing this a lot faster than I thought I would, haha. Alucard just wants to nap but his pops just has to rile things up all the time!

News! Links! Convention Stuff!

HI ALL!

First, that thing I was vaguely hinting about (and probably should have posted about sooner but never mind that now): I had the opportunity to write a guest article for Belladonna Horror Magazine! Check it out, I did the Lost Boys article!

In other news: I did not get either of the two jobs I was holding out for earlier this month, but I just got a call for another interview--still library stuff, still full-time, so fingers crossed for that one. Interview is on Monday! Send good vibes! I also created a LinkedIn profile but I have no clue how to navigate it yet. Give me time. I'll get there.

Nextly, we are ALL over Convention Week at the moment, even locally. The library's free con, FantaSci, is happening this weekend, so I'm going to go and meet Leanna Renee Hieber, author of Tor's "Strangely Beautiful" series (which I haven't read yet, but I will). She's doing a panel on the history of Gothic literature. So OBVIOUSLY I gotta be there for that.

Lastly, I have somehow inadvertently introduced Mom to Supernatural. It's entertaining. And kind of bizarre, since I haven't revisited Season 1 since I got through my whole binge-watch. (THEY LOOK SO YOUNG! OMG!) I'm recapping the adventure on Twitter with the hashtag #MomWatchesSupernatural.

Happy Wednesday!

Just some babble about some stuff

After about $500, my jeep now has a new alternator, a new blower for the AC, and a new waiting to be put on driver side front door, on top of the new spark plugs, wires, and air filter. Apparently putting on doors of this particular make/model is a real pain in the ass so I'm waiting until I absolutely have to. I already have someone willing to do it. I'm hoping it doesn't became super necessary anytime soon.

I'm working on an Alucard art piece that seemed so simple when I was sketching it out but which has turned into this really in depth piece. I'm really enjoying working on it; it's not for anything and I'm not really in any hurry to have it finished. So I can kind of meander and play around and see what works and what doesn't. it also helps that I'm working entirely with a blue palette and while blue isn't my favorite color, it's one of my favorite colors to work with (my fave color is orange! Yay complementary colors!). Anyway, ideally it will be finished by this Saturday but we'll see.

Cutting this but it's about John McCain's cancer diagnosis )
